The atc is for young people aged 13 to 20. There are
many many sqns around the country and more than 35000 cadets scattered around.
It has became a huge part of my existence, I have
got great memories and mates from it....
So far I have run around Linnet Clough with 1196,
shot with the .22, trained with the L98, taken part in sports comps, got promoted, made the wing athletics team, met loadsa
peeps, done recruitment displays and much more... and there's loads more to come!!!
It's a mini adventure!!!
I joined the ATC when I was I got enrolled in December,
and became a 2nd class cadet. I recently passed my first class exam and I got promoted 8 weeks ago and became youngest NCO
on squadron.
In the ATC there are 4 NCO ranks. When a cadet gets promoted they become a Non Commisioned Officer, or NCO.
The lowest rank is corporal, which is a junior NCO
rank. A Cpl generally takes charge of cadets and sets an example to the cadets. The cpl has most contact with cadets and acts
as a go between for Cadets and SNCOs. The rank of corporal is generally given around Leading or Senior classification.
The next rank is Sergeant. A sergeant is a senior
NCO. A sergeant takes charge of JNCOs and are usually I/C of a flight in a sqn. Sgts helps the cpls and sorts out problems.
The rank of sergeant is awarded around Senior classification.
A flight sergeant is in charge of a sqn and the whole
NCO team. The F/S is closest to the staff and is the connection between other NCOs and the staff.
Cadet warrant officer is the highest rank achievable
as a cadet. It is hard to obtain and is presented by the wing. There is less than one per squadron in a wing. The CWO wear
a different uniform and is recognised as an intergral part of the staff. A CWO is usually always over 18 and a staff cadet.

I can't get a picture of the squadron crest, but it
feautures our motto, PRIDE and the 162 lion.
There are 4 classifications: 1st class
Leading
Senior
Staff
To gain these a cadet must study and pass all the subjects
in the syllabus for the classification. When the cadet has passed, they are given the badge of that qualification, or a yellow
lanyard if they have passed their staff exam.

This is Becky Lavelle, the most dudiest cpl from 284 (Cheadle and Gatley) sqn... well she's gotta be, seeing as though
I haven't met the other two... but I'm sure Ryan and Carly are just as dudey...

Cpl. Tom short from Buxton sqn at the L98 training weekend, Cpl. Ben Faldon
from 391 hiding behind him.
